History
.click was delegated in August 2014, one of the earlier strings in ICANN's new extension programme, and was built by Uniregistry, the registry founded by domain investor Frank Schilling around short, action-oriented words. GoDaddy bought Uniregistry's registrar and marketplace in 2020, but the registry took a different path: IANA recorded the transfer of .click to Internet Naming Co. in November 2022.

The naming profile is mixed: our WHOIS observations show about a fifth of new .click names carry a digit and one in seven a hyphen, and every single new registration in our records was taken for a single year, which is what campaign use and churn both look like.

Short links and campaign pages. The extension is an instruction, which works when the address is printed, put on a QR code, or read aloud, cases where a long URL fails.
Is .click better than a link shortener?
It is a shortener you own. Third-party shorteners can go away, change terms or get blocked wholesale by spam filters; a domain you registered stays yours as long as you renew it.

Internet Naming Co. Uniregistry built the extension and launched it in 2014; GoDaddy bought Uniregistry's registrar and marketplace in 2020, but the registry itself transferred to Internet Naming Co. in November 2022.
Why is every .click domain registered for just one year?
In our records, effectively all of them are. That is what campaign use looks like (a name registered for a specific push and dropped afterwards), combined with heavy first-year discounting.
Will a .click link get flagged as spam?
It is a real risk. Extensions with cheap bulk registration attract more filtering scrutiny, so test deliverability and link reputation before building a campaign around one.
